Truck mounted concrete pumps prove essential for many construction jobs

When it comes to a commercial contract, such as getting a large volume of concrete to where and when you need it by the most efficient means and with the minimum of disruption, you need to ensure you have the right tools for the job. The priority is to overcome the obstacles that you’re presented with, especially when the job involves getting concrete to an inner-city or suburban site with all the access issues that can involve.

In this scenario, typical of so many construction projects, the truck-mounted concrete pump is the ideal solution. When it comes to tight spots or hard-to-get-to places, the truck mounted concrete pump is made for the job. Not only will it get the concrete to where it is needed efficiently, it will do it with less manpower, which can mean significant savings for the contractor.

The concrete pump truck is fitted with a hopper that helps to deliver the concrete in a flowable state, that can be pumped to where it is needed via a hose. A remote-controlled robotic arm, or boom, is mounted on the truck, and delivers the concrete to the exact spot it is required. The lengths of the boom can vary - from 21 to 65 metres – and flexibility means it can be directed into all sorts of otherwise hard-to-access places with ease, be they at ground level or higher up. The operation can be carried out regardless of weather conditions, helping to avoid costly delays.

In concrete terms – no pun intended – three men can pump the same amount of concrete in an hour, using a pump truck, that would take five men two and a half hours to do by carting it in. Contractors talk about making manpower savings of up to 50% when they use pump trucks, compared to traditional truck dumping. The extra efficiency means a contractor using a pump truck can take on more jobs in a day, moving from site to site – get there, pump, move on!

Pumping also means that the quality of the concrete remains high, as there’s no re-handling, and no need for special mixes to maintain quality. The truck-mounted concrete pump is suitable for a wide range of jobs, including mid to high-rise buildings, at ground level, or anywhere where concrete is required quickly, efficiently, and of a consistently high quality. An added benefit of using a pump truck, is safety. As there are fewer workers involved in pumping concrete, there’s a reduced on-site risk of an accident.
